Cyber space is becoming the battlefield of choice for nations like North Korea, China, and Iran. It is cheap and easy for a bad actor to exploit vulnerabilities and digitally attack our utility providers, electrical grid operators, water treatment facilities, banks, and other private-sector businesses. Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] released the following statement after supporting bipartisan legislation to better protect our nation from cyber threats:
"Cybersecurity is critical in a digital world given the frequency with which online attacks occur and the potential to wreak havoc on assets we rely on, like our electrical grid," said Congressman Rothfus. "These bills create a mechanism whereby people in the public and private-sector can voluntarily send or receive information about cyber threats for the sole purpose of protection."
Rothfus continued, "My vote would have been cast against these bills had they lacked sufficient privacy protections and requirements to scrub personal identification data. I also would not of supported these bills had we not amended each to include an expiration date, requiring Congress to reexamine and update privacy protections to accommodate the ever-changing digital landscape."
