On Tax Day, House Passes Legislation to Reform the IRS

Statement

Date: April 15, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement after the House passed several bipartisan bills to make the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) more transparent and accountable:

"Each tax season, particularly on April 15th, Fifth District Virginians are reminded just how complex and outdated our current tax code is. Families and small businesses spend billions of hours each year dealing with this most excessive example of bureaucratic red tape only to hand over their hard-earned dollars to a federal government that continues to make the process more difficult and unfair than it needs to be. To make matters worse, the IRS fails to carry out its most straightforward duties time and time again.

"The American people deserve better from an agency that is intended to ensure fairness and help taxpayers understand and meet their tax responsibilities. I was proud to support these measures that will hold the IRS accountable and ensure fairness for all hardworking taxpayers, and I was pleased to see them pass the House with wide bipartisan support. We in the House of Representatives remain committed to reining in an out-of-control federal government that makes life more difficult for hardworking Americans."
