Statement from Rep. Scott Perry Regarding Senate Approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline

Statement

Date: Jan. 30, 2015
Location: Washington, D.C.
Issues: Oil and Gas

"Congratulations to the U.S. Senate for having an open and transparent debate over the Keystone Pipeline these last few weeks, resulting in its passage with a strong bipartisan majority. President Obama's own State Department has said the Keystone Pipeline would create American jobs and substantially reduce our reliance on energy from unstable foreign sources. The Keystone Pipeline passed the U.S. House with strong bipartisan support earlier this month. It has the support of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's office said, "this project will create tens of thousands of jobs on both sides of the border, will enhance the energy security of North America, has strong public support, and the U.S. State Department has, on multiple occasions, acknowledged it will be environmentally sound." President Obama should reconsider his threat to veto this common-sense plan to expand American infrastructure and create more domestic energy. In the meantime, Congress will continue to pass bills to strengthen our economy and create jobs."
