Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) announced a $100,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) for the George Eastman House to create an interactive Technicolor Online Research Archive. The free, web-based archive will be available for historians, researchers, and academics to study the incredible influence of Technicolor on American cinema and popular culture in the 20th century.

"The creation of this online archive will be a fantastic resource for the public, and is a testament to the fine work of the Eastman House in sharing and preserving our nation's motion picture and photographic history," said Congresswoman Slaughter. "Rochester has a rich history of technical innovation and I couldn't think of a better way to illustrate that history. Congratulations to the George Eastman House, Director Bruce Barnes, and to all those who will soon be able enjoy this incredible new resource. I'm looking forward to seeing the exhibit upon its completion."

The NEH grant will allow the Eastman House to digitally archive 60,000 artifacts from the Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation from 1915 to 1955. In collaboration with the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science's Margaret Herrick Library, the Eastman House will make this comprehensive and annotated collection of photographs, important documentation, and equipment available online for the first time. The project will commence in May 2015, with a projected completion date of November 30, 2017.
