Foster Attends White House Science Fair

Today, Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) attended the 2015 White House Science Fair, celebrating the achievements of students in STEM competitions from around the country. Exhibits at the event included a project from Trisha Prabhu, 14, of Naperville, Illinois. Trisha's project, "Rethink", uses a computer program to stop cyber-bulling by urging teens to "rethink" sending messages that can be hurtful or abusive.

"It was wonderful to see so many bright young students excited about applying their STEM skills to solving problems," said Foster. "America has always been a nation of innovators and makers, and it's good to see that tradition continuing with the next generation."

"I was especially pleased to see Trisha's efforts to stop cyber-bulling," said Foster. "Not only is this a serious problem that needs to be addressed, but her work is an excellent example of the solutions that are possible when creative thinking is paired with a strong foundation of STEM skills."

Foster, the only physicist in Congress, is a scientist and businessman who worked at Fermi National Laboratory for over 20 years. Foster's scientific career was as a high-energy physicist and particle accelerator designer at Fermi Lab. Foster was a member of the team that discovered the top quark, the heaviest known form of matter. He also led the teams that designed and built several scientific facilities and detectors still in use today, including the Recycler Ring, the latest of Fermi Lab's giant particle accelerators.
