Diaz-Balart: Democrats Playing Dangerous Game with Americans' Future Retirement
Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today blasted Democrats for choosing to obstruct real and necessary reforms to Social Security rather than work with Republicans toward making the program solvent.
"Democrats continue to lose their credibility in addressing Social Security's looming problems," Diaz-Balart said. "They scream NO!' at any Republican attempts to fix the program, yet if you ask for their plans, you will only hear crickets chirping.
"The problem facing Social Security is glaring: the program will pay out more than it takes in within 12 years. We cannot and should not wait until the damage is inevitable and irreversible.
"President Bush has already provided some remedies for Social Security's long-term funding ills," Diaz-Balart continued, "I applaud the President for presenting workable concrete ideas and will continue to work with the President to include personal retirement accounts in Social Security.
"Democrats seem to enjoy playing a dangerous game with Americans' future retirement."
Diaz-Balart concluded. "Democrats need to stop partisan politicking and start addressing the needs of the American people - for today and tomorrow. Obstruction and denial will not save Social Security."
