Congressman Becerra: Congress Must Pass A Budget That Improves The Lives Of Hardworking Americans, Not Just The Richest Few

Statement

Date: March 25, 2015
Location: San Fernando Valley, CA

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after voting against the irresponsible House Republican budget for the fiscal year of 2016:

"Hardworking Americans want the opportunity to earn a living so they can buy a home, send their kids to college and enjoy a secure retirement. Any budget put forward in the United States Congress should reflect those values. Unfortunately, the House Republican budget says no. It strips 16 million Americans of their health care coverage. It dismantles Medicare on the road to privatization. And it terminates education tax credits for families trying to send their kids to college.

"House Democrats have put forward a responsible budget that invests in the American people. It creates good-paying jobs repairing our nation's roads and bridges, makes college more affordable, and protects and strengthens Medicare and Social Security. Let's work to pass a budget that stands for opportunity, prosperity and dignity for every American, not just the wealthiest few."
