Congresswoman Fudge and Ed and Workforce Committee Democrats to Hold Forum on ESEA Reauthorization

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) will participate in a forum on Thursday, February 5, at 10:30 am in Washington regarding the status of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the most recent reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The law has not been updated since 2002 and Congresswoman Fudge is concerned the Majority Members of the Education and the Workforce Committee have introduced legislation that would weaken or dismantle critical provisions of ESEA relating to accountability and equity in public education.

"The Republicans have sought to fast track reauthorization of one of the most important federal education laws in our nation. They have no plans to hold a single committee hearing on NCLB (ESEA), and there is simply too much at stake for America's children for this rushed approach," said Congresswoman Fudge. "As the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education, I believe Congress must take this opportunity to listen to Americans and learn from educators and our citizens on how to improve the law."

This Thursday's forum will be convened by the full Committee Ranking Member Robert "Bobby" Scott. It will include Congresswoman Fudge and Democratic committee members, educators, researchers and advocates to better inform the House as it considers ESEA reauthorization.
