Comment of Sen. Patrick Leahy On 'Another Made-In-Washington Shutdown Crisis'

Statement

Date: Feb. 24, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

"This is another needless, made-in-Washington crisis. Some are willing to hold hostage the security of the American people, as well as the dedicated public servants -- including 2500 Vermonters -- who work on the front lines to keep the public safe. The solution to this contrived disaster is simple. The Senate should pass a clean Homeland Security funding bill, without political policy riders. Then, if there's another debate to be had about immigration policy, let's have that debate, out in the open, and without threatening our homeland security operations in the meantime. The House should promptly consider the bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform bill that the Senate overwhelmingly passed two years ago."
