Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will give closing remarks at a discussion among different generations of women civil rights leaders about their roles in fighting for change and how they are continuing that movement today. First Lady Michelle Obama will give opening remarks at the event. The discussion, moderated by Essence magazine Editor-in-Chief Vanessa De Luca, will be in front of an audience made up of students, civil rights, business, education, and community leaders.

"As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act this year and seek to revive it, First Lady Michelle Obama will lead in reminding us that it takes both genders to make a movement and to achieve historic change," said Norton. "I appreciate the White House's invitation to offer closing remarks after hearing from a distinguished panel of women who continue to contribute to efforts to achieve even more change in our country."
