Rep. Reid Ribble on Fully Funding DHS & Overturning the President's Illegal Amnesty

Press Release

Date: Jan. 14, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Reid Ribble (WI-08) today released the following statement following the vote on H.R. 240 The Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2015, and amendments from U.S. Representatives Aderholt, Mulvaney, Barletta, Blackburn, DeSantis, Roby, Salmon, Thompson, and Schock.

"When President Obama issued a veto threat before the House had even voted on this bill, he made it abundantly clear that he was willing to risk the security of our entire nation to protect those who have come here illegally.

Today, the House has chosen to fund the Department of Homeland Security to protect our nation, and to vote to overturn the President's illegal, unilateral executive order. I believe this was the right thing for us to do.

However, this does not absolve us from fixing our nation's broken immigration system. Almost every one of us is the descendant of immigrants. Immigration has been a very good thing for our nation throughout its history.

Right now, it is too hard to come here legally, and too easy to come here illegally. We must work together to pass meaningful solutions to these problems, to secure our border, and build an efficient, workable immigration system that is fair to those who have waited years to come into our country the legal way."
