Congressman French Hill (AR-2) released the following statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 529, a bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to improve 529 plans, by a bipartisan vote of 401-20:

"Many middle class families in Arkansas and across the country rely on 529 plans to save for their children's college education. As a former community banker, I have helped many parents and grandparents set up these accounts. I have seen firsthand the success of these plans and how valuable they are to families and students. I am proud to have co-sponsored and voted for this bill that would expand, strengthen, and modernize college savings for middle class families, while pushing our country away from the President's dangerous proposals to tax 529s and other crucial savings programs. -- Congressman French Hill
