Vitter Statement on President Obama's Force Authorization Request

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) today issued the following statement addressing President Obama's force authorization request to Congress. Vitter called for a formal Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) following American airstrikes against ISIS in Syria last year.

"First and foremost, the Administration needs to articulate a clear, cohesive strategy. Congress will obviously review a force authorization request -- which I've been advocating for since last year -- but this doesn't mean President Obama's current campaign is working," Vitter said. "President Obama's passive leadership has invigorated terror threats around the world. We can't pretend an AUMF is sufficient. It's important -- but what's more important is a clear, cohesive strategy from the President."
