Congresswoman Brown Comments on President Obama's Proposal for a New Authorization for Use of Military Force

Statement

Date: Feb. 20, 2015
Issues: Defense

President Obama sent Congress the text of a resolution to authorize continued military operations against ISIL, in response to calls for a new Authorization for Use of Military Force that addresses the threats our nation faces today. In response, Congresswoman Brown said:

"Indeed, as our nation continues to confront this very serious threat, I believe that the United States needs a military strategy to degrade and destroy these brutal terrorists. And our troops, as well as the American people and the world, need to know that our nation is united and will stand strong to repel ISIL.

Congress must now carefully review and debate the President's proposal, and should do so quickly, so that we can provide our military with a clear, well scoped mission and the tools it needs to protect America against the threat posed by ISIL and its associated forces. I am looking forward to a constructive debate as Congress reviews the President's resolution."
