More of Crime Victims Fund to Go to Crime Victims

Statement

U.S. Senators Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Congressmen Ted Poe (R TX-2nd) and Jim Costa (D CA-16th) issued the following statement regarding enactment of a provision to increase disbursals from the Crime Victims Fund:

"We are pleased that Tuesday night the president signed into law a requirement that a larger share of already-available dollars go to crime victims. The Crime Victims Fund receives no taxpayer dollars; it is funded by criminal fines and penalties assessed in federal court. For over a decade, Congress has unfortunately capped the total amount of dollars that can be allocated to assist victims of child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and other crimes.

"This bipartisan measure represents a step in the right direction. Next Congress, we will continue to fight for crime victims by introducing a bipartisan, permanent fix that will increase the amount of money allocated to serve crime victims each year."
