Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) issued the following statement today on the release of Alan Gross, an American aid worker imprisoned by the Cuban government for five years:

"I was so glad to learn this morning of Alan Gross's return home to his family in Maryland after five years' captivity in Cuba. His wife Judy and their daughters have been waiting so long to welcome Alan home, and today is one filled with joy and thanksgiving for them, their extended family, and their neighbors and friends throughout the Greater Washington area. I join in thanking President Obama for working to secure his release, and I commend Alan for his work with USAID before his imprisonment to bring hope and opportunity to people in need throughout the world."
