Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. Candice Miller (MI-10) issued the following statement congratulating Rep. John Dingell (MI-12) for being honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his service to this nation:

"I want to congratulate my colleague John Dingell who, today, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation's highest honor for a civilian. John Dingell has lived a truly incredible life, having been on the floor of the House as a page listening to President Roosevelt asking for a declaration of war against Japan; to serving as a soldier in that war; to serving for 59 years in the House -- helping to pass the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act; presiding over the House for the creation of Medicare; to authoring the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts. And John Dingell has always been a warrior for Michigan and our auto industry."

"John has always been a man of great honor and respectful of our democratic system. I congratulate him on this well-earned honor."
