U.S. Sen. David Vitter commented today on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announcement that Stennis Space Center in Mississippi was selected as the new location of the NASA Shared Services Center.
"I'm pleased that NASA has selected Stennis Space Center for the new Shared Services Center, which will create nearly 500 jobs for residents of Louisiana and Mississippi," said Vitter.
The NASA Shared Services Center is a $230 million investment over a 10-year period. Currently about 30 percent of all Stennis employees live in St. Tammany Parish, and this influx of jobs will create additional career prospects for Louisiana residents.
"As a long time advocate, I have worked closely with U.S. Sens. Trent Lott and Thad Cochran of Mississippi to demonstrate why Stennis was the best choice for the NASA Shared Services Center and how its selection would benefit both of our states," said Vitter.
"Louisiana will continue to play a valuable role in the future of NASA, and I am hopeful that we can build on this success to bring additional opportunities for the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans and Stennis," Vitter said.
