U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and 13 other Senators yesterday sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry urging the State Department to make resources available to the Mexican government as the search continues for 43 students that went missing in the State of Guerrero. The students have been missing since September 26th, and their fate still remains uncertain. Mass graves have been found throughout the area during the search process, which speaks to the larger issue throughout Mexico involving more than 22,000 people who have gone missing or disappeared and currently remain unaccounted for. This number "constitutes one of the largest in the hemisphere," the Senators wrote.
"With more than 22,000 people currently missing and unaccounted for in Mexico, the culture of impunity must end," Senator Kirk said. "The United States should work with the Mexican government in every way we can in order to bring justice to the families of those missing."
