Terry Calls for Congressional Involvement in Iran

Statement

U.S. Representative Lee Terry (R-NE) today made the following statement on Iran's nuclear program and negotiations over weapons inspections:

"There is no greater threat to the security of the United States than a nuclear Iran. We cannot allow Iran to anchor nuclear weapons in a region that is already so volatile and presents such a clear and present danger to American citizens and a secure homeland.

"After a year of negotiations on the status of its nuclear program, Iran has received yet another extension. All this and IAEA inspectors are still not allowed to inspect the Iran's nuclear sites fully. We cannot maintain the security and stability of the Middle East and our number one ally Israel while continuing to engage a partner who is either acting in bad faith or going through the motions.

Over the last year, Congress has delayed enacting sanctions on Iran. The time is now to have a robust debate in the House moving forward and to use our authority to impose sanctions to ensure that Iran does not have the ability to access nuclear weapons."
