Renacci Votes To Promote Manufacturing Projects, Create Jobs

Press Release

Date: Nov. 20, 2014

Rep. Jim Renacci (OH-16) today released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 4795, the Promoting New Manufacturing Act. This legislation promotes job creation by reducing Washington red tape and increasing transparency by providing the public with access to information surrounding the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) permitting process.

"In this year's State of the Union Address, President Obama spoke about the need to accelerate the development of manufacturing projects around the country by expediting the permitting process. However, he has yet to take action," said Renacci. "That is why I was proud to support the Promoting New Manufacturing Act, a bill that streamlines the EPA's permitting process to provide much-needed transparency and reduce delays. Not only will this legislation boost domestic energy development, it will also incite investment, encourage innovation, and create jobs. If we want to get serious about jumpstarting our economy, we need to work together to approve legislation, like the Promoting New Manufacturing Act, that will allow our businesses do what they do best: create jobs."

Specifically, the Promoting New Manufacturing Act reduces permitting delays by ensuring the EPA provides timely guidance about how to comply with new or revised air quality standards. It also provides the public with access to information regarding the number of permits issued annually and timelines for final preconstruction permit decisions. Lastly, this legislation will increase efficiency by requiring the EPA to provide Congress with an annual report detailing actions taken to accelerate the permitting process.
