Senator Blunt's Statement on Extension of Iran Nuclear Talks

Statement

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), who serves as a member of the defense authorizing and appropriations committees, issued the following statement today regarding the extension of the Iranian nuclear talks by another seven months:

"Every day that we continue these unsuccessful talks and repeated extensions with Iran is another day given to Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. I'm especially troubled by the administration's willingness to give Iran additional economic relief for nothing in exchange. It's been nearly a year since the original six-month interim agreement, and the Obama Administration has failed to adequately address this problem which is critically important to our country's national and global security. It's time for the Senate to take action and pass the bipartisan Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act to impose stronger sanctions on Iran."

In December 2013, Blunt co-sponsored the "Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act," bipartisan legislation proposing prospective sanctions on Iran should the regime violate the interim Joint Plan of Action agreed to in Geneva or should Iran fail to reach a final agreement.
