Proclamation -"World Asthma Day"

by the Governor of the State of California

California nurses are entrusted with the responsibility of providing medical care for millions of Californians every year. From routine check-ups to emergency medical crises, they work tirelessly to respond with swiftness, professionalism and compassion.

Nursing is our state's largest licensed health care profession, including more than 316,000 registered nurses and more than 98,000 licensed vocational nurses. Professional nursing meets a broad spectrum of health care needs in a variety of settings and is an indispensable component of ensuring quality patient care.

During National Nurses Week, we celebrate the role of nurses in providing comprehensive health care to our growing, diverse population. As part of this year's theme, "Nurses: Many Roles, One Profession," we join the California Department of Veterans Affairs to recognize the exemplary work of nurses serving California's three Veterans Homes.

Each day, nurses across our state continue to serve faithfully, and their kindness and commitment to medical excellence improves the quality of life for many. We salute them for their outstanding public service and dedication to such a noble profession.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2005 as "National Nurses Week" in California.
California Seal IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have here unto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this the fourth day of May 2005.
