Larsen Statement on Reelection

Statement

Date: Nov. 5, 2014
Location: Everett, WA

Rick Larsen, D-Everett, issued the following statement after winning an eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Larsen will continue to represent Washington's 2nd District where he was born, raised and lives.

"This seat belongs to the people of the Second District, and I am humbled and honored that they elected me to represent them for the next two years,"
"Thank you to all the volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly to bring about this victory. The countless hours you spent knocking on doors and on the phones with voters made all the difference in this election.

This is a victory that we all share.

"Born and raised in Arlington, my family has called Northwest Washington home for over a century. My mom and dad raised me and my seven brothers and sisters with the values I now teach my own children: work hard, caring for each other, and giving back to your community. These same values of service and community are what continue to motivate me and drive my priorities.

"I am committed to helping grow our economy and create jobs in the Pacific Northwest, protect our state's environment, and make it easier for people to participate in our democracy.

"I want to invest in our transportation network and put people to work repairing our roads, bridges, highways and transit systems. And I will work hard to help the industries of Northwest Washington overcome economic hurdles to good paying jobs for middle class families. From shipyard workers and other maritime employees, to local manufacturers dealing with cross-border trade issues, I will l work to solve problems and provide assistance to growing small businesses.

"I also understand that our unique quality of life is rooted in our land, air, water and wildlife. We live in one of the most beautiful places in the nation. Working to protect this region and its open spaces will remain a priority for me.

"And I plan to continue my fight to expand opportunities for everyone to participate in our democracy. I want to destroy any barrier that prevents people who are registered to vote from exercising that right, and end special interests' influence in Congress by passing a constitutional amendment to undo the Citizens United decision.

"I was born and raised in this community. This is my home. I will work hard every day to put politics aside and find common ground to find solutions for our region.

Larsen secured a victory in the 2014 election with over 61% of the vote. His campaign made more than 70,500 contacts with voters, including doorbelling 19,500 homes and making 51,000 phone calls to voters.
