Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) today congratulated the 911th Airlift Wing (Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station) for being selected as the 2015 Commander-in-Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence. Rep. Murphy's comments came at an annual Military Affairs Council event today in Robinson Township bringing together top officials from the 911th and other local military bases.

"It is no secret Pittsburgh's 911th Airlift Wing stands head and shoulders above the rest as one of the most efficient, skilled, and mission-ready airlift units in the country. This award once again confirms that by any objective measure, our airlift wing delivers great value for the taxpayers while meeting a critical need for our national defense. Each day, through their hard work and patriotism, the men and women of the 911th Airlift Wing make our region proud. I congratulate everyone from the base commander to the 1,200 reservists who train there for earning this distinguished honor."

Background:

Every year, the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Defense Logistics Agency nominate the "best of the best" installation to be recognized by the President and the Secretary of Defense. The 911th was chosen over four other Air Force Reserve Command host installations because of its superiority in management, efficiency and effectiveness. The base will now compete against active-duty installations for the distinction as the top Air Force installation and for a top prize of $1 million to be used for troop morale, welfare and recreational purposes.
