Today, The Washington Oxi Day Foundation honored Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04) with their Greatest Generation Award. The foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating lawmakers and the public about Greece's role in World War II and celebrating those who courageously fight to preserve and promote freedom and democracy around the globe. The award, presented at The World War II Memorial, honors American and Greek veterans who valiantly served during World War II.

Congressman Hall, one of only two remaining members of Congress who served in World War II, joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 where he served until 1945 as a lieutenant (senior grade) aircraft carrier pilot. The Honorable Brett Hall, 382nd Judicial District Court Judge, accepted the award on behalf of his father. Congressman Hall was unable to attend as he continues to focus on rehabilitation from an automobile accident earlier in the month.

The 2014 Honorees include Greek WWII veteran Admiral Ioannis Toumbas and Greek-American WWII veterans, and brothers, Maj. Nicholas J. and Staff-Sergeant Sam J. Bouras. Previous honorees include American WWII veteran John Dingell, longest-serving Member of Congress in US history, Greek-American WWII veteran Lt. Col. Christopher Mehiel, Greek WWII veteran Four Star General Konstantinos Korkas.
