U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) has been named a "Taxpayer Hero" for the first session of the 113th Congress by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW). Rep. Hultgren was recognized for his 89 percent voting record to protect and save taxpayer money by his continued supported of legislation that has eliminated wasteful spending, increased transparency, and put a dent on the ever-increasing national debt.

"There are still challenging obstacles to overcome, but loading on more tax burdens is not the solution," Rep. Hultgren said. "Washington's fanatical spending culture needs to change. In Congress, I will continue to support legislation that cuts unnecessary spending, and help rebuild the trust between taxpayers and the government. Government revenue should be used for the benefit of the people, not for the ambitions of politicians. If any progress is going to be made, then Congress must continue to make financially sensible decisions that won't add on to our national debt."

"In today's dismal fiscal climate, the actions of these members are a bulwark against the spendthrift behavior of their more wasteful colleagues. Far too many members of Congress in 2013 continued to support a big-government agenda and think first and foremost about satisfying their own special interests," said CCAGW President Tom Schatz. "CCAGW applauds the Taxpayer Heroes and Super Heroes for their courageous votes to cut wasteful spending, reduce taxes, and make government more accountable to taxpayers."
