Location: Maywood, IL

Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment for a park development and improvement project in Maywood. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the project is part of Governor Quinn's agenda to increase opportunities for recreation, create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"It's important that everyone in Illinois has a place to be active and take on a healthy lifestyle," Governor Quinn said. "This investment will give the Maywood community a renovated facility to be enjoyed for years to come. A new recreation center will not only help improve the health of the people in the Maywood community, but also create new jobs for hardworking local residents."

The Maywood Park District will receive a $1,620,000 state investment to renovate an existing building on Madison Street into a recreation center which will include multi-purpose and fitness rooms and locker rooms. The total estimated project cost is $1.8 million.

"As Village of Maywood Mayor I am always excited when great things happen for our town. The Village of Maywood is in need of a place that our youth, our seniors and all of our residents can go for recreational and health programming," Maywood Mayor Edwenna Perkins said. "I would like to personally thank Governor Quinn and all the elected officials that made this capital investment in our community possible."

"This is a big day for the Maywood community because our park district is in desperate need of repair, and our children are in need of a safe haven like the park," State Representative Emanuel Chris Welch (D-Westchester) said. "Special thanks to Governor Pat Quinn. With him, everybody is in, and no one is left out."

"Investment in local park districts is an investment in the future of Illinois communities," Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director Marc Miller said. "This renovated facility in Maywood will help maintain a high quality of life that is vital for attracting young families."

The park project is part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
