Rep. Roybal-Allard Congratulates Commerce's AltaMed Health Services on $250,000 HHS Grant

Press Release

Date: Sept. 10, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) released the following statement about the news that the Commerce-based AltaMed Health Services Corporation has been awarded a $249,898 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

"I congratulate AltaMed Health Services on their receipt of this grant, which will help residents of my District gain access to lifesaving health care coverage. It is good to know that the Department of Health and Human Services recognizes the importance of expanding health care access to more residents of the 40th District," said Congresswoman Roybal-Allard. "I've spent my career in Congress fighting for legislation to reduce health disparities. That's why I've introduced bills like the Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA), which seeks to equalize health outcomes regardless of race, ethnicity, immigration status, age, ability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or English proficiency. This grant is a valuable step in that effort: it will provide new funding to improve minority health and increase health coverage within underserved areas of Los Angeles and Orange Counties."

The grant was awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Minority Health and its Office of Public Health and Science, as part of the Minority Health Community Programs to Improve Minority Health effort. The grant project, named "Connect for Coverage," will run from September 15, 2014, to August 31, 2016.
