Letter to James Comey, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Senator Ayotte Requests Information Regarding Efforts to Capture Terrorists Involved in Murder of James Foley

Letter

Date: Sept. 25, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Dear Director Comey,

I am pleased to see reports today that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) believes it has identified the man responsible for the brutal murder of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff.

I welcome this news, but I am interested to know what steps the FBI is taking, in conjunction with the Department of Defense and our international partners, to bring this terrorist to justice.

As you may know, James was one of my constituents, and Steven attended school in New Hampshire.

On September 9, 2014, the Senate passed Senate Resolution 538, which I helped introduce. This resolution expressed the sense of the Senate that the U.S. should "vigorously pursue and bring to justice those responsible for the murders of James Foley and Steven Sotloff."

I ask that you provide me an update at your earliest convenience on the steps the administration is taking to do just that.

Thank you for your distinguished service to our country.
