Congressional Candidate Arturo Alas made the following statement about the growing militarization of our local police forces.

"The recent events in Ferguson are a tragedy. The police did not have to use deadly force on an unarmed individual. What is needed is a measured response, both from the police and people. Active leadership and continual oversight of the police is necessary to prevent tragedies, like those in Ferguson and elsewhere."

Alas continued, "We must also demand an end to local police departments' use of military-grade weapons. This has been a continuous trend for the past several decades, with more negative than positive consequences."

Arturo Alas is a grassroots leader and local businessman. A San Gabriel Valley native, Alas played professional soccer for several international teams before returning to Southern California and starting a successful real estate business. Alas believes that the Federal government has become too large, too powerful, and too expensive. A strong believer in individual rights, Alas believes we must get back to a Constitutional government and restore the free market principles that have made our nation great and our people prosperous.
