Press Release

Date: Oct. 2, 2014
Location: Bismarck, ND
Issues: Energy

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced $90,000 in federal funding to move forward with a wind turbine development project on Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indian Reservation.

Specifically, the funds will be used to update a previous wind feasibility study, reinstall a wind tower with updated equipment and engage land owners and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in buying back land on the location of the project. The funds will also be used to continue a transmission feasibility study on how to best get power from the wind turbine to the power grid.

"When it comes to energy, North Dakota does it all," said Heitkamp. "But an all-of-the above energy strategy requires investments to make sure our infrastructure is top-notch and we develop the most efficient facilities available. These funds will help Turtle Mountain make upgrades and take a deeper look into how they can best use the renewable energy."

These funds were authorized by the U.S. Department of Interior.
