Location: Minot, ND

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced nearly $10 million in federal funding to support job-driven training programs at Bismarck State College, Turtle Mountain Community College, Williston State College, and Sitting Bull College.

These funds will be used to support programs focused on training students to enter North Dakota's energy, transportation and construction industries. Bismarck State College will lead a consortium of four schools as part of the Training for Regional Energy in North Dakota (TREND). TREND works with local employers to develop the education and skills of students in North Dakota to meet the needs of the state.

"Community and technical colleges are critical for training the skill-based workforce we need to meet the demands of many of North Dakota's growing industries," said Heitkamp. "By partnering with local employers and coordinating efforts across the state, these funds will help provide North Dakota students with the skills and knowledge they need to get good, stable, and in-demand jobs. Investing in our students and making sure we have a workforce to meet the unique demands of our expanding state, like these funds do, are critical for North Dakota, and will help us remain an economic leader for years to come."

The funds are distributed as follows:

Bismarck State College - $4.1 million
Turtle Mountain Community College - $2.1 million
Williston State College - $1.9 million
Sitting Bull College - $1.7 million

These funds are part of the U.S. Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training initiative to help expand and improve the education and career training programs at community colleges across the country.
