Bustos Endorsed by National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare

Press Release

Today in Peoria, Cheri Bustos received the endorsement of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM) for her strong record of fighting to protect Medicare and Social Security. Max Richtman, the President of the NCPSSM, presented Cheri with a pair of boxing gloves for her record of fighting to protect Social Security and Medicare.

"I'm honored to receive this endorsement today from the the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare," said Cheri Bustos. "Medicare and Social Security are two of the most solemn promises we've made to our nation's seniors, and preserving and protecting these programs is a high priority to me. I thank Max Richtman and the NCPSSM for their endorsement, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to protect Medicare and Social Security for current seniors and future generations."

"Our nation needs your continued leadership, vision and determination to fight for working families and older Americans," said Max Richtman, President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, in an endorsement letter to Cheri Bustos. "You earned the endorsement of the NCPSSM because you understand and support the critical roles that Social Security and Medicare play in the retirement and health security of our nation's older citizens and their families. You are well-prepared to serve the needs of seniors and will continue to make the preservation of Social Security and Medicare a priority in office."

Cheri Bustos has been a strong advocate for Illinois seniors and has fought hard to protect Medicare and Social Security for current seniors and future generations. She strongly opposes any efforts to privatize Social Security and to end Medicare's guaranteed benefits. She's also helped lead efforts against switching to a so-called "chained CPI" system for calculating Social Security benefits that could lead to benefit cuts for seniors and has advocated for protecting local Social Security field offices from cutting back services.

Bustos has a 100% score from NCPSSM, while her opponent, ex-Congressman Bobby Schilling, received a 0%.

The NCPSSM is one of the most effective and trustworthy sources for Social Security and Medicare advocacy. Since 1982, they have been working for generations of older Americans who want our nation's health and income security programs secured for the future.
