Release: Callis for Congress Campaign Releases Second TV Ad of the General Election

Press Release

Date: Sept. 8, 2014
Location: Edwardsville, IL

Former Chief Judge and Congressional challenger Ann Callis today released her second television ad of the general election, "Trim the Fat." The ad highlights Congressman Rodney Davis' misplaced priorities, as he continues to defend Congress' generous taxpayer-funded perks while voting to hurt his constituents. The ad can be viewed here:

"As I travel around the district, I've heard from many people who are concerned that Congressman Davis doesn't have their best interests in mind. From farmers to butchers, they can't believe that their own Congressman would vote to cut programs for seniors, students, and working families while he wines and dines lobbyists at fancy Washington steakhouses and defends generous perks for Congress like first class flights, pensions, and healthcare for life. It's time to change how Congress does business," said Callis.

A proven judicial reformer, Callis has made reforming Washington a central focus of her campaign, launching her Congressional Reform Agenda in response to Congressman Davis' continued defense of taxpayer-funded perks, lobbyists on his payroll, and the "do nothing Congress."

The ad will begin airing in Illinois' Thirteenth District today. You can find more information on Ann's record and values here: www.CallisForIllinois.com.

The ad's script is below:
CALLIS FOR CONGRESS, "Trim the Fat" Script:

(CALLIS)
I'm Ann Callis. I approve this message.

(GENE, FARMER)
When I first heard that Congressman Rodney Davis had spent forty grand in D.C. steakhouses, I said "well done."

(PETE, BUTCHER)
Me too. But then I found out Davis voted to chop Medicare…

(GENE, FARMER)
But not perks for himself, like first class flights, pensions, or healthcare for life.

(PETE, BUTCHER)
Hey, steak is great, Congressman, but it's time to trim some fat in DC.

(GENE, FARMER)
Putting yourself ahead of the middle class is a load of bull.
