U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today toured the Frederick County Senior Expo and met with Maryland seniors. Senator Mikulski discussed her continued fight to give seniors a fair shot by protecting Social Security and standing firm against efforts to privatize Medicare.

"Honor thy mother and father is not only a good commandment to live by, it's good public policy to govern by," Senator Mikulski said. "Seniors in Frederick and across Maryland need a fair shot with a government on their side. That's why I'm fighting to protect Social Security and against efforts to privatize Medicare. I am committed to meeting the needs of our growing and changing senior population so they have the services and support they need to live more healthy and active lives."

As Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Mikulski fought to pass a fiscal year 2015 spending bill to keep the government open and prevent disastrous cuts to critical health innovation and research. She has worked to support increased funds for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) working on new treatments for Alzheimer's and cancer. And she has also fought to support caregivers and nurses.
