Aderholt Votes for Energy Bill; Goal: Reduce Prices at the Pump

If there is one thing I am hearing in Alabama, it is that gas prices must come down. This legislation is written to accomplish just that," said Congressman Aderholt.

WASHINGTON, April 22, 2005 -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) yesterday voted in favor of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (H.R. 6). The bill passed 249 to 183 and the Senate will soon consider its version of the bill.

This legislation's goals are to lower energy prices for consumers, spur the economy, create hundreds of thousands of jobs and create new opportunities for both energy conservation and efficiency," said Congressman Aderholt. "Consumers will appreciate that this bill will allow new refinery construction - a key to reducing these skyrocketing gas prices. Additionally, this legislation will reduce natural gas prices, improve gasoline markets and advance efforts in hydrogen fuel cell car development.

I think everyone can agree that this legislation addresses both renewable energy sources and oil production issues, ultimately providing relief at the pump. We have included legislation that allows us to carefully and responsibly develop the Alaska National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR) as part of a broad effort to reduce our dangerous dependency on foreign oil and provide relief to consumers while minimally impacting the environment that we all care about.

The unprecedented growth of our nation's economy in the past 25 years has far outpaced our ability to develop and deliver the diverse energy supplies America needs, and it has become an issue of national security: we need to reduce our dependence on other nations and develop our resources right here at home.
