Cassidy Comments on Cameron LNG Final Authorization

Press Release

Date: Sept. 10, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) commented on the Department of Energy's announcement that is issuing its final authorization approval for the Cameron Liquefaction Project in Hackberry, Louisiana. This will allow Cameron LNG to export domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement with the United States. Cameron will be able to export LNG up to the equivalent of 1.7 billion standard cubic feet per day for 20 years.

Dr. Cassidy offered the following statement:

"Increasing LNG exports means more jobs for Louisiana workers and more opportunities to develop our natural resources. It also furthers U.S. foreign interests by undermining oil based economy dictatorships. While Cameron LNG's approval is great news for Louisiana, there are too many other LNG export applications waiting to be approved. We need commonsense policies that promote natural gas development to allow America's energy economy to succeed."

Dr. Cassidy co-sponsored The Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act, H.R. 6, to accelerate the approval process for Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) exports. He also joined Rep. John Fleming to propose an amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations Act of 2014 to prevent the Department of Energy (DOE) from factoring in the "perceived impact" of greenhouse gas emissions into the public interest determination process it uses to review Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) export applications.
