U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued the following statement after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's address to Congress.

"Today, I was honored to listen to President Poroshenko's call for a continued alliance between the United States and Ukraine in the face of Russian threats. The Russian invasion of Crimea and provocations in the eastern part of Ukraine are dangerous violations of sovereignty and we must not allow them to continue.

"The Ukrainian people deserve to live in freedom and the United States must not allow them to stand alone. It should be made very clear that America will support Ukraine with its struggle to turn back any Russian aggression. Vladimir Putin must not be allowed to threaten, intimidate, or invade America's allies with military advancements. Russia should immediately withdraw from Crimea and stop supporting separatist rebels.

"If Putin continues to be an adversary to peace, the United States, along with the European Union and NATO, should provide intelligence, training, and equipment to the Ukrainian military so they can push back and prevent any further territorial encroachments.

"I look forward to working with the White House, other members of Congress, and our partners abroad to ensure a peaceful future for the people of Ukraine."
