Walsh Meets with Crow Chairman Darrin Old Coyote

Senator John Walsh welcomed Crow Tribal Chairman Darrin Old Coyote to his Washington office to talk about the importance of extending the Indian Coal Production Tax Creditand the Crow Irrigation Project.

Old Coyote is visiting Washington to testify before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee regarding irrigation projects in Indian Country.

"Ensuring access to natural resources for Montana's tribal nations is an important part of the federal government fulfilling its trust responsibilities," Walsh said. "I will remain a committed partner in helping to advance economic opportunity and grow jobs across Indian Country."

Since taking office in February, Walsh has championed issues important to tribal resource management. He worked with Senator Ron Wyden, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, to ensure the Indian Coal Production Tax Credit was part of tax extenders legislation brought to the Senate floor. During August, Walsh visited the Absaloka Mine on the Crow Reservation and pledged to continue fighting to extend the tax credit.

Chairman Old Coyote also conveyed his support for Senator Walsh's "Ten in Ten' legislation to make coal sustainable by investing in technology that reduces carbon emissions and grows our economy.

Walsh joined Old Coyote in August to participate in the annual Crow Fair parade.
