New Quinnipiac Poll has Beauprez 10 Points Ahead

Press Release

Date: Sept. 17, 2014

A new Quinnipiac poll released today has gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez leading incumbent Democrat John Hickenlooper by a 10 point margin.

According to an article by AP:

"Republican gubernatorial challenger Bob Beauprez has jumped ahead of Colorado Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper by 10 points in a poll released Wednesday, placing the once-popular incumbent behind by a substantial margin for the first time in the race.

With less than two months before the election, the poll suggests some of that sheen has worn off and Hickenlooper has a lot of ground to make up.

'Pundits were predicting that Gov. Hickenlooper faced a close race for reelection. Instead, he's got a mad dash to make up a double-digit deficit,' assistant poll director Tim Malloy said in a statement."

The numbers come following Hickenlooper's failure to stand up to Washington to protect Colorado citizens.

According to Hickenlooper's chief of staff Roxanne White in a Denver Post article:

"John is facing a different political mood in the country, and I think we have voters in Colorado that have a decision to make: Do we want to be more like Colorado, or do we want to be more like D.C.?"
We couldn't agree more.

UPDATE: Bob released the following statement on the poll to the media this morning:

"Claudia and I are grateful for the support we're getting from people across Colorado and this poll simply confirms what we're hearing on the ground--voters want a strong leader with character who'll stand up for Colorado and make the tough decisions to help our state. Our state desperately needs stronger leadership and with 48 days left to go, we are not going to let this or any other poll distract us from getting the job done and giving Colorado the leadership it deserves. We are going to run like we're behind."
