Kirk Statement on ISIS's Killing of Third Western Hostage

Statement

Date: Sept. 14, 2014
Location: Chicago, IL

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) today released the following statement on the videotaped beheading of British hostage David Cawthorne Haines by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS):

"ISIS's murder of British aid worker David Haines last night, along with its earlier killings of American journalists James Foley and Steven J. Sotloff, are painful reminders that ISIS is at war not just with the United States and the United Kingdom, but with civilized peoples all over the world.

"As a military-style terror group with more than $2 billion in assets, ISIS has as many as 30,000 fighters in Iraq and 50,000 in Syria, including 1,100 Western passport holders who could fly to the United States without a visa today. The American people cannot take the risk of underestimating ISIS's threat."
