Senator Jay Rockefeller today issued the following statement on the 13th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:
"Thirteen years ago today, our lives were changed forever when we witnessed the senseless and cowardly terrorist attack on our nation that killed nearly 3,000 people. We remain burdened by a heartfelt loss that none of us can forget. While we mourn the deaths of the men and women lost on 9/11, we also pause to remember that out of that chilling day came great unity across our country.
"The perseverance our country has shown should make us all proud, and inspire us on each somber anniversary of 9/11 to honor those lost by coming together in service to others. As West Virginians, we know we are stronger when we work together. And nothing unifies us more than staying true to our state's tradition of helping others and giving back to our communities. Today, I encourage you to put that tradition to action and serve your community. Help a neighbor, hold your loved ones closer, and offer hope for a stronger, safer America."
