Statement

Today, Reps. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) and Diana DeGette (D-CO), co-Chairs of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, released the following statement in response to the Obama Administration's announcement regarding the Affordable Care Act and contraception coverage:

"As co-chairs of the House Pro Choice Caucus, we are committed to ensuring that women across the country have access to contraceptive coverage and we will not walk away from that principle.

"Ninety-nine percent of American women rely on contraception at some point in their lives, and half of women between the ages of 18 and 35 have had trouble paying for this essential medical care. The administration's proposal will help ensure women have access to contraceptive coverage at no additional costs. The House Pro Choice Caucus stands with the administration's effort and we look forward to working with advocates to realize the fundamental right of all women to receive the health services they need.

"We continue to work in Congress to pass a legislative fix to the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision because bosses have no right to make healthcare decisions for their employees. That's why we must pass our bill, H.R. 5051, the Not My Boss' Business Bill."
