Rep. Grijalva Congratulates University of Arizona on $1.7M Grant for New National Center for Integrative Medicine in Primary Care

Congressman Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) released the following statement congratulating the University of Arizona on a sizeable grant announced Tuesday by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The $1,699,998.00 award from the Health Resource Services Administration (HRSA) grant program will help create the National Center for Integrative Medicine in Primary Care (CIMPC). The program will promote the use of integrative medicine (IM) to help address health disparities in primary care and promote healthy communities.

"I congratulate the University of Arizona on receiving this tremendous contribution from HHS," said Rep. Grijalva. "Having developed the first and most comprehensive curriculum on integrated medicine, as well as the first Integrated Medicine Residency program, U of A is a national model for training medical practitioners and the perfect location for the new Center for Integrative Medicine in Primary Care."

Growing from a single Residential Fellowship program in Integrated Medicine in 1997, the University of Arizona launched the Center for Integrative Medicine in 2008, and continued expanding in 2012 when they opened the University of Arizona Integrative Health Center.

"The CIMPC represents the next step for U of A as a leading institution in the medical field," Grijalva continued, "and I'm pleased that this grant will help make it a reality."
