Noem Learns About Veteran in the Woods Initiative

Press Release

Date: Aug. 15, 2014

U.S. Representative Kristi Noem learned more about a program that helps veterans.

On Friday morning, Noem toured a fire site near Blackhawk. The Veteran in the Woods initiative helps employ veterans to complete forest restoration and pine beetle mitigation projects. Noem says it can be hard adjusting to life after the military and she says programs like this are so important because it gives veterans a great opportunity and it also helps the forest.

"So if they can come back and be a part of this program where they still have some comrades that are working beside them every day, but then learn new skills they can use to get a new job or career, I think that's wonderful," said Noem.

Veterans say they are thankful for the program because it gives them skills and helps them ease into life after the military.
