Issues: Immigration

Stronger Border Security:

The President must outline a strategic plan to immediately resolve the current border crisis and end the use of military bases as temporary housing for those who have crossed into the United States. This is neither the mission of military bases nor an appropriate housing option for immigrant children.

Bipartisan Support:

The border crisis is ultimately the failure of Congress and the President to pass comprehensive immigration reform. The President's unilateral actions and mixed messages on immigration have precipitated this mass migration of young people from Central and South America. We need bipartisan solutions now. Representatives in Washington -- Republicans and Democrats alike -- must put politics aside and act on immigration.

Comprehensive Reform:

Immigration reform must secure the border; provide stricter employer sanctions and work-site enforcement to cut down on illegal hiring; and provide legal status for current undocumented immigrants who pass a background check, pay fines and back taxes -- ultimately allowing them to become eligible for citizenship if they so desire after a probationary period.
