I support increased funding and resources for homelessness prevention efforts instead of building new shelters. East Brooklyn has an over-saturation of shelters. Shelters are a disruption to family life and a drain of our valuable tax dollars. No child should have to suffer the trauma of shelter, I know from experience. I will fight for access to housing vouchers for those in shelter and more targeted and effective social services for those at risk of homelessness. We need to continue to fight for affordable housing units and revitalize and repair current NYCHA and Mitchell-Lama housing complexes. Residents in NYCHA should not have to wait years for much needed repairs.
