Fitzpatrick Votes to Boost Border Security, Stem Illegal Immigration

Statement

Date: Aug. 1, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) released the following statement Friday regarding the House passage of legislation to strengthen border protection efforts and address the crisis on the southern border:

To meet the urgent need to address this challenging crisis, the House took action to achieve three primary goals: Protect the border, protect the children and prevent this from ever happening again. Tonight, we passed legislation to protect the border by giving law enforcement more resources to enforce our laws, provide more humanitarian assistance to those involved, and increase efforts to prevent similar situations in the future. These measures respond to the circumstances facing our nation in a realistic and compassionate way. It is my hope that the House and the Senate will come to agreement as soon as possible.

There is an urgency to this crisis that requires a unified response. It requires a commitment to enforce our laws and it requires us to act humanely. It is my hope that the president and all our leaders will take the bold steps necessary to see that our nation of immigrants remains true to its founding principles and true to the laws that guide us and welcomes all those who are willing and eager to follow the lawful path to freedom.
