TIBERI BACKS BILL PROVIDING CONSUMER PROTECTION FOR MORTGAGE BORROWING
April 17, 2005

WASHINGTON-Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-Columbus) is supporting bipartisan legislation that would protect mortgage borrowers from abusive lending practices.

"As a former realtor," said Tiberi, "I know that buying a home isn't only an exciting experience, it can be stressful, too. Homebuyers shouldn't have to worry about being treated unfairly when they obtain a mortgage.

"H.R. 1295, The Responsible Lending Act, will put in place strong safeguards to not only ensure that consumers get a fair deal, but make mortgages more available so that more families can buy and maintain homes."

"These common sense reforms will allow homebuyers to shop for mortgages with confidence," said Tiberi, a member of the Housing Subcommittee. "I hope we can adopt them as soon as possible."
